Next-gen Sonic

It may be blurry, out-of-focus and filmed with a cheap camera at a weird angle, but this next-gen Sonic demo is simply spectacular - and must be real. I am contacting SEGA to get some official confirmation. But there is no way this is fake. It´s real and, more importantly, real-time. A presenter says so. She also announces: "This next level of graphics may be coming sooner than you think."

Why do you post it in your blog? Is that a Revolution Blog?

I wanted to say "Is this a Revolution Game" xD
sorry

The question is, what resolution was that video running in? If it was higher than 480p then this was not a REV version. If it was 480p then this is great news because the game apparently supports widescreen.

There is a very very very strong chance this is a REV game because Sega has all but told us it prefers to market Sonic to Nintendo's audience. We may see the official trailer soon. Nintendo's conference starts today.

I've seen this before. Can't remember where, but it certainly seems to be a Rev game. Ever since Sega quit the console market, they've always had Sonic on Nintendo's consoles.

woah.

Thats, uh, pretty amazing. Sonic sure has come a long way! Oh, and I like the Super Sonic transformation, very Sonic 3.

Lets keep our fingers crossed that this will go to the Revolution.

there are done on lindbergh hardware , which is not based on next gen hardware from sony, microsoft or nintendo.
Lindbergh use imagination technologie GPU ( powervr).

i subscribe to play magazine, and i remember at e3 the editor in chief for the magazine said that he had renewed faith in the xbox360 after seeing this video. Don't know if that means it was definitely coming out for the 360, or running on 360 hardware. Just passing along what he wrote.

(i think it's still available at www.playmagazine.com in the editor blogs section. it would be an entry by E Storm back during E3)

Well that does look great but if thats the revolutions graphics then its not good enough to make me happy, and i dont think thats running on revolutions hardware, i think the graphics on the revolution will be much better than that.

Yep that is the video I saw at e3, looked nice, but I have never liked Sonic games very much.

might we here something specific about the rev come september?

Falafelkid said...

Hmm. Interesting fact there, sssd. Iwata will hold a keynote at the Tokyo Game Show. But wouldn´t they need to be on the showfloor with the Rev if they chose to reveal the console there? I would think it´s unlikely anything will be revealed.

Just got a reply from SEGA, saying that video is real. They won´t say which console it´s for, though.

Well if you recall, Miyamoto attended that closed doors viewing at e3

if it were for the 360 or ps3 they probably would have said so. but they cant because it is probably for the Rev. also, it switches to first person twice in the tech demo. very strange that they would do that.

DlphnMod said...

The more I think about it, there is no way Sega would keep Sonic off of REV. It would be financially stupid considering the fanbase Sonic has on GC and GBA

sssd said...

i agree dlphnmod. however, it would also make sense for the game to come out on 360 and ps3. So, i predict we'll be seeing next-gen sonic games on all 3 systems, though the rev version will be unique.

I've never liked Sonic games that much, but I do admit that the thought of playing a game like that with a gyro controller (tilting to control your direction at immense speeds) sounds very fun. That is, of course, if the Revolution's controller even has gyros in it.

Lectoid said...

ummmm....gyros.....aghghaghg...sorry

sweet video, most of the points were covered, so I am gonna shutup now.

Yeah I htink ti is for the Revolution it looks spectaculate and finally sega is focusing on their stronger points fo their franchises for instance sonic is not about puzzles he is about speed and twitch reaction. I am so happy to see sonic back in his prime.

I can´t really say why, but I have reason to believe this could be ´running´ on Revolution (pun intended). I´m still puzzled by the lady´s comments about those graphics coming out ´sooner than we´d expect´ or whatever she said.

@Raphael: Thanks for the link. I´ll post this straight away.

Holy shit. I don't even LIKE Sonic, but god DAMN. And... "none of this was done with prerendered graphics. This is next level. And it may be coming sooner than you think." Holy Jesus. I don't think I've been this excited about a new gen since the leap from 16 to 32 bit.

Falafelkid said...

@anonymous Spanish speaker: I do find it amusing - but it must be fake. That´s a screenshot from a GC demo horribly distorted. The logo looks decent, but Resolution is a lame name for a console. I guess the poster himself isn´t even serious about it - but Babelfish doesn´t pick up on irony yet. Sorry ;P

@Falafelkid

It all is a joke.

I just hope you have had some fun with it.

Un saludo.
