Rev screenshots and the Moz La Punk debate

On this thread on the Moz La Punk boards they posted a number of pics and I can reveal one of them to be fake - so they all must be. Some person on this GameFAQs thread already suspected it to be from a CG movie. It is. It´s from Back to Gaya, the first German CG movie. See the picture in question on a German movie site here. Click on the second square (underneath the toad) and you will see the very screenshot.

EDIT Almost all the other screenshots have since been proven fake as well. They are all rendering examples for the Brazil Rendering System used with 3D Studio Max and Autodesk. Here are the cinema scene, the female face and the twenties street scene. The older guy is missing, but who cares now anyway?

EDIT I originally did kick up some controversy about the reliability of the Moz La Punk site in this post. What really made me say that was the BMW motorcycle helmet being sold as a leak. Well, here´s its creator claiming that the site was not in the know on this. Read it for yourself.

Thought_Epiphany writes:
I see that it is probably useless that I post here, seeing as how everyone has pretty much said everything that needed to be said. Anyhow, I am thought-epiphany, the guy people were talking about who supposedly tried to pass a mockup as a leak. That was just me goofing off one time, I never did it again. (I didn't actually intend for it to spread over the net like wildfire either, I just was goofing around with my board-buddies) I made the "black ON helmet" way in the beginning. The Japanese "Development Kit Manual" photo "leak". It was just as a joke and it wasn't from Moz la Punk, it was just on his message boards. Initially, although some thought about it enough to disprove it, it was pretty convincing as it was not a hit and run. I did a damn good job of making myself sound like a legitimate developer, answering every question and so on. Because of this Moz posted it on his site JUST BECAUSE it was convincing enough that it could have almost been real. In the article he said he didn't know if it was or not, but supposedly it was a leak from a developer on the boards. He never claims anything is real, and since there have been so many fakes since the beginning he really won't post anything anymore unless it has info. to back it up. It wouldn't matter if he did anyway, because he always says he doesn't know if it's legitimate, but it is interesting. You do the same thing. Also, what the members of Moz la Punk's boards do having nothing to do with Moz or Moz's blog. It's the members. But that doesn't matter, because with a bit more investigation (like actually reading the thread) you would have realized that nobody was saying the pics were real (in fact the first post said he didn't know, he just found them on another board). Sorry for not paragraphing, it's not worth it and I'm tired. So if it bugs your eyes or if you don't bother reading it all, oh well. Anyhow, I've always liked you Falafelkid, you always try to look at things and find the truth, but you slipped up on this one.

Again, thanks for your comments here. But I think you (and everyone at Moz La Punk) should have tried harder to stress that only you knew you had done them. You being one of the prime members, this incident really made me question the site´s validity for good. And I hardly think you can blame me for that. Anyway, thank you for sharing your views.

What the hell are you smoking?! Moz La Punk is a site for _SPECULATION_! So, of course, when some picture claimed to be dealing with the Revolution graphics comes along, we're going to tear it apart to prove/disprove it. We know it's fake, but the way you're putting it, you're trying to make us look like a bunch of hapless idiots, who are no better than SeriousFaker. We didn't say it was actual photos of the Revolution's graphics capabilities. The source the photos came from did. I don't know what you honestly have against us, but you're really trying hard to make us look bad. What the hell did we do?

Anonymous said...

Also, we didn't make the photos. Where did you get that idea from?

Falafelkid said...

BTW, I guess you were talking about the rat, not the character, right? Anyway, your description reminded me of this unfortunate abhorrition of nature: http://www.img1.de/nickpics/picz/45408/d68b3eca9bf46f2be7d7413217cccb2c_big.jpg
God must have nipped off to the toilet when that ugly fellow was created ;P

Falafelkid said...

@saint: THIS is a site for speculation. Speculation is examining pieces of evidence that may be real or fake. Moz La Punk has actually made mock-ups themselves (thought-epiphany did a few, I think), presented them as leaked pics someone mailed them and then let people discuss those on their site. What´s the point of that? Might as well listen to Seriousgamer007. Same difference.

Anonymous said...

T-E made mock ups that were LABELED as such. For example, I made one: http://www.fivefiftyone.com/revcontrol.png
Does that make me SeriousFaker? No! Mainly due to the fact it is LABELED as a mock-up. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making a mock-up. Name one time there was anyone there actually making a photo and claiming it to be true? I'm not talking about the obviously fake one that T-E made under the other name. I'm talking about a person just coming onto MLP and claiming their photo was real. It hasn't happened. Some users (idiots like oxygenuk) have claimed that other's mock-ups were the real deal, but he's a liar, and people pay little attention to him anymore, anyway. Name a decent mock-up that has been labeled as the real deal by the author on MLP. It hasn't happened.

Anonymous said...

Did you even read the whole thread?

Falafelkid said...

@saint: There were some that were posted as allegedly leaked images. And only when someone proved them to be fake, TE admitted to them. I´m not flaming here, it´s just not the best site for reliable info. I don´t trust anything that originates from that site. What about that whole "I´ll post rev controller pics in three days" stunt? Don´t tell me that wasn´t meant to boost page impressions.

Anonymous said...

The 3 day wait? That was by Anonymous Sam. Again, another idiot. That was in no way MLP's fault. If MLP wasn't around, it probably would've happened on some other blog.

I personally think that the guy who contacted Moz about the controllers was not the same guy I conversed with over e-mail.

Anyways, Moz is a reliable site for what it advertizes; revolutiomn speculation. He has never said

"lol looks teh controller is here!@!1 its real"

Some people on the forum amy have, but you cant hold that againt his site in general.

Anonymous said...

ok calm down guys. The forum in mlp is for speculation that photo came from JeuxVideo.com where someone over there have tried ot make it pass for the rev. So sure we would have seen a thread for it in our board. We usely have most of the leak images in our board when they are put on the web

For those mockup, I remember one '' leak '' made by TE for the fun of it and that's preatty much that, he debunked it like 1 days afters. And also this was on the forum, not on the websites of mlp. Moz never put photo like those on the main website cause usely they are fake.

Please just change your posts and delete the part when you say we made it, cause if you read the whole thread you will clearly see it as been mention that he came from jeuxvideo.com and a couples posts later that thoses pics were fakes

I dont try to attack anyone here, I'm just stating the fact so everything is clear.

Anonymous said...

LOL

Look at all the dumb ass Moz La Punkers coming here trying to defend what they do.

You guys will post ANYTHING on your site. Look at all the attention they gave that Unknown Sam guy. It was so clear he was fake (you'll have the pics tomorrow.. err tuesday.. uh friday.. emm.. what had happened was..).

You guys at Moz La Punk need to get it together. You're all wrapped up in visors and VR and all that shit. Nintendo is releasing the budget system homeboys.. DEAL WITH IT!

Anonymous said...

Kid what are you smoking? Because I want some of it.

As far as I know (and i've been on there since it started) the MLP Boards have never claimed naything to be real when concerning new images, the closest we have come to saying any photos found on the internet and posted on the boards were either

1A) Someone thinking that they were going to impress the world by showing "Real photos" and posting them on MLP.

1B) Finding convincing and reliable sources for the photos in question, then we MAY call them real. T-E and Pakstar are our resident Photoshoppers and they do a damn fine job of spotting fakes and the like. We also have news diggers who post all the time. Like moku, Moteh, and others.

In my personal opinion Kid, I believe you're trying to slander a good (And trustworthy, besides some jokes WE HAVE pulled and later locked and put away for good) website for reasons that are shadowed.

Anonymous said...

I kind of agree with Falafel.

Nothing of any importance has ever happened on Moz La Punk. Nothing they have "investigated" has turned up true at all (watch some dumb ass bring up "teh phone call!!1one").

The only thing that has ever come of Moz La Punk is unrealistic expectations for Nintendo's next system and a ton of exposure for Moz La Punk.

That's all Moz La Punk is. It's a hype machine for itself. Nothing has been revealed or figured out.. but hey, Moz La Punk is now known in Nintendo circles across the globe. It gets cited in game forums as a source of info. It gets webpage hits. Wake up people. Moz just wants to further his journalistic ambitions.. and making shit up seems to be a good way to get noticed in the media these days.

Anonymous said...

I used to think you had an okay blog falafaelkid, but now I've changed my mind. Don't go attacking Moz's site for what was posted on the forums and LABELED as speculation from a totally different source. If you took the time to read that thread, you'd see that it wasn't Moz posting stuff. It was a person who saw those pics on a different web site that claimed these were Revolution screens. Get your facts straight or don't post at all.

Anonymous said...

falafelkid, your a misinformed dick on the subject of Moz.

and to the anon, who says he agrees with falafelkid. the moz comunity has proven things to be false. they do a good job of that too. the site is clearly a way for moz to attempt to fufill his journalistic ambitions... but isnt that a lot of what people are attempting to do online?

Anonymous said...

I can't say that I care for the MLP site itself, but its forum and its members, in my opinion, are generally much more informed then the other forums out there. Yes, there have been fakes on the MLP forum, but there isn't a Revolution forum out there that hasn't had its fair share of fakers. That said, Falafelkid has always been critical of sources that pass off speculation as truth, and I for one am glad that somebody is taking a hard edge to the endless rumors. Whether you agree with Falafel's approach or not, the reactions against his so called "attack" have been much worse than attack itself.

Hey Falafelkid,

I'm the head editor of Moz La Punk. I hope you don't expect some flaming war now or something because I'm just here to talk to you in a friendly matter.

When someone talks trash about Moz La Punk, and that happens enough, I let them be. But when they say a picture originated from us and we are pretending it's real, I take notice. It was on the Gamespot forums and Jeux France before it even hit the Moz La Punk boards. When it came to our boards I immediately said it was a fake, considering the picture at hand is from a German made movie 'Return To Galaia' or something like that. A rip off of Shrek, no doubt, but anyway, it's hardly Revolution graphics.

While I can understand some people only see Moz La Punk as 'the rumour pit', I hope more people can open their eyes and actually take a LOOK at the site. We haven't had Revolution speculation in weeks on the main page (although there is a news article now about Miyamoto's interview). Other than that, we just have tons and tons of well written columns and (p)reviews. We're just doing our job, man. And it's true, it's understandable some people think like this, because we had a lot of speculation about the console around E3. And we still have on the message boards. But isn't that where message boards are for? Discussion and speculation?

As far as fake pictures are concerned, Moz La Punk or someone connected to Moz La Punk have never made up pictures for the main site and pretended that they were real.

Hopefully this clears some stuff up. Please stop the bashing man, it really doesn't look nice as a personality feature.

With kind regards,
head editor Moz La Punk

And about the 'I post pics in three pages' stunt. It wasn't a stunt. I had sources and they left me in the dark.

You really think I want to boost my visitor-count? Dude, I have enough visitors, I don't care how much come by anymore. At E3 I had 100,000 visitors and it fucked up my server, hence, I don't want as much as that anymore. It was a hell.

So, that's basically my story of this. It's a shame you have a different opinion. Oh well.

Hi everyone. Well, I really never meant to flame, so to those one or two people here calling me names: I´ve argued my case calmly. If you need to revert to insults I´ve obviously hit a sore spot with you. To everyone else, thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, I don´t have the time to provide you with an example where an mlp mockup has been passed as a possible leak, but I am very sure there was at least one such example. I will try to research this tomorrow. In the meantime, I appreciate that some of you feel strongly about mlp being critical. I´ll paste your comments directly into my post, so it´s balanced. And once again, I don´t mean to bash or flame here.

Hey,

it's good to see you're as responsible and open minded as I expected. Ofcourse we all have different views on which site does certain articles or things best, and judging from the responses here, there apparently are enough people who DO view Moz La Punk as a respectable site.

I'm sorry for the people who reacted on your article in a more... how should I put it... 'emotional' way. It's not nessesairy to start a flame war, like you said yourself.

Thanks for balancing your article out a bit more, and good luck with your blog.

Falafelkid - you are a hippo

a hypocrite - speculation - why don't you try finding out facts rather than attack blogs and sites which do the same - speculate

focus on your own site - don't attack other innocent people - even if they are lying - what is it to you - it doesn't bring down your credibility - you have done that yourself

shame on you...

Anonymous said...

I think you took it a little too far in your last post. In a previous post you slammed Truth Seeker for his unprofessionalism, yet here you are accusing Moz La Punk of something they didn't do, a clear sign of your own unprofessionalism and lack of journalistic research. I think an apology is in order.

On a side note, a lot of insults have been hurled at you in here, most of which are just unfair. You made a mistake, thats all. Own up to it, and move on. Don't take this stuff too personally ;)

Anonymous said...

i agree with the above post and i feel bad for calling you a hippo

i'm sorry and i agree you should not take it personally and admit that you went overboard

Anonymous said...

i think that Falafelkid was expecting people to go 'boo Moz la Punk' and he was very surprised that some people have different views and know it is a respectable site and isn't a hype machine or makes up rumours

i think that you refer to the emotional outburst as surprising because you didn't expect people to be loyal to the site or to the head of the site

referring to vistor count or having people visiting the site more/less than yours is unprofessional and although it was good of you to allow the other side of the arguement to be heard - you were rude and have offended a lot of people - you assume that the site is like seriousgamer and know nothing about it

'what are my thoughts?' i think you should apologise and move on - let's leave it be and don't judge decent site who speculate - like yourself - as being fake or creating hype

Stand your ground Falafel Kid. The people coming in here and defending MLP are only hardcore MLPers that frequent those forums. Rational Nintendo fans understand the extreme disservice they are doing.

Every explaination of their fakes is just "well I was goofing around" "it was only on the message boards" "it's not like we said it was 100% true!!!".

The problem with MLP is they pride themselves so much as being "in the know" and "real n-game players" but they just toss around the same fucking rumors as the god damn gamefaqs board. Then they wrap a nice shiny "investigated" tag on their rumors like a Christmas bow, pat themselves on the back, and circle-jerk each other over their uber l337 n-game skills.

There was nothing REMOTELY believable about Annonymous Sam and yet there was a huge fuss made about it. Hey MOZ, I'm an insider, I like totally work for Nintendo and they told me EVERYTHING about the Revolution. I have a camera and access to the dev kit (and the controller, SCORE!!!) but I won't actually take the picture for a week. In the meantime, I want to write a bunch of articles about how I may or may not be legit, but that I deserve the benefit of a doubt simply because I shouted my idiocies loud enough.

Give me a fucking break.

Anonymous said...

looks like the worst movie ever made.

Anonymous said...

To the last anounimous...

I'm sorry you feel that way. Like I said, we don't make a big deal out of any rumour. When a rumour reaches me and I think it's legit enough, yeah I post it on the site. Why whould I want to widheld my readers from it. Always, in every article about rumours, it's stated that it IS a rumour. Anyone with a proper English skill could do the math.

Now, we pride ourself as big N-Game players? What are you talking about? The only N-Game that exists is on my site, since I made that term up. All the other people are figuring out what the Revolution is about, I just called it N-Game (not knowing N-Gage had something called like that too, but hey). Does that mean we're doing something more? Nope, I just gave the monster a name.

Anyway, when are people going to realise MLP isn't only for those freaking rumours? Do me a favour and go to the site. Where are the rumours, man? Where are they, except for the forums? They're somewhere at the bottom, that's right. What's the main page filled with then? With normal, well written articles about the gaming industry, thank you very much.

This is not in response to falafelkid btw, he seems pretty reasonable. But this last anonymous guy just bashes my site without any good reason. Please man, hating isn't cool anymore, it's so ninetees.

Boy, you have issues (more so than manners, anyway). Well, dear Sir. I can only assume that you haven´t soent too much time on my blog. Because ever since I started I have been able to post some important information here. I was the first person to interview Pablo Belmonte, aka Psyco3ler, the creator of the ON video. Another example is that I was the first person to reveal that the controller had been finalized and had been sent out to studios alongside the dev kits. This is my own research, based on my contacts and knowledge. You might also want to ask the select group of people that come here regularly, because they know and appreciate my style of journalism.

Oh, just in case you are wondering: I am a professional TV journalism, have been to E3 six times, interviewed Miyamoto on three occasions and Iwata once. I am sorry to brag about things like that, but ignorant people like you make me do that. And now I shall bid you farewell.

Anonymous said...

I have issues because your post I think your post is dumb? Whatever. Sorry if my manners hurt your feelings.

By the way, I don't care if you've interviewed the pope - this post is still really dumb.

P.S - congrats for going to E3. Here's a cookie.

Falafelkid said...

Your manners don´t hurt my feelings. You are going to have to get through life with them, not me. And you are acting just a little bit short-sighted saying you don´t care who I interviewed, because access to people is the only reason people prefer some websites over others. Why do people check IGN regularly and smaller sites less so? Because IGN have better access to people like Reggie, Kaplan and even Miyamoto. So do I.

And speaking about the pope: Incidentally, he IS coming to Cologne in two weeks, which is where my tv station is based. So I may very well be interviewing the pope, thank you very much.

Touché.
