Revolution and PS3 to launch in 2007?

Did SanDisk get the dates mixed up or is this breaking news of both the PlayStation3 and the Revolution launching no earlier than 2007? In a press release issued and dated January 5th, the company writes:
"Microsoft’s recently released Xbox 360™ features three USB ports. And early announcements from both Sony and Nintendo have indicated that their next-generation game consoles – PlayStation3™ for Sony and Revolution™ for Nintendo – will also support USB connections when the consoles go on sale next year."
The company´s press spokesperson Ken Castle is at the Consumer Electronics Show and cannot be contacted. I myself believe they got the dates mixed up. A 2007 launch for the Rev and PS3 would leave the market wide open for Xbox360.

They probably wrote that piece before New Year's, or they just forgot that it was a new year... :)

Yeah, so many official sources point to 2006 for both releases that it seems difficult to believe that this is anything but an oversight.

Also, the good people at Nintendo are themselves confuesd. Their latest press release is dated 01/03/2005.

Possibly they meant the next fiscal year (financial year) since as they are companies.

I should also add the next fiscal year would be after September 30th 2006, if I remember correctly.

Oops, actually, fiscal years are company-specific, I think, so I am not sure when the next year for Nintendo or SanDisk would be.

The last secret is Mario 3D Paint. Its part of the system from the get go.
It allows users to create short 3D sequences, pictures and even 2D/3D gameplay through given but exchangable AI-routines.
Its also upgradable and compatible with Revolution games.

On a side note the Hollywood GPU will take advantage of several advanced rendering methods for modelling and skinning.

The final name will be Nintendo Intend.

How come everyone passes this article around?

Nintendo execs have said 2k6. Nintendo Europe's website says 2k6 also.

Here's the link....

" On an as-yet-unannounced date in 2006 Nintendo will launch its next home console, code-named 'Revolution' - which will truly spark a revolution in gaming. We've already been given a sneak peek at its potential with the revelation of the groundbreaking one-handed controller with motion-sensitive technology. We already know that Revolution will let you play all your Nintendo GameCube titles and also a back catalogue of downloadable Nintendo classics. But if you think that's all there is to know about Revolution, think again... 2006 is going to be very interesting indeed. "

i do like the idea of mario paint 3d though. i was reading this on a blog

http://revolutionspecs.blogspot.com/2005/12/huge-list-of-questions-first-part.html

"11. In the ON video it says "Make Games" how does this function work?

Making games will be a great function of Nintendo Revolution. Let us say briefly that some games will allow to create your own environment, characters...very easily, and then play in it. Nothing very sophisticated, but you can make a great game if you are very imaginative."

it reminded me of the Elder Scrolls construction kit included with ESIII: Morrowind and an updated version in ESIV: Oblivion.

Hey that's not a bad angle. I remember hearing some talk that the player will be able to choose their character in a game. Like in the Zelda game you be Donkey Kong if you wanted to be. That would go along with creating your own environment and such.

But alas I really can't picture this as a feature in any concrete terms.

This is a little off topic, but are you saying that in the States the definition of the fiscal year varies between companies. That's crazy. I'm pretty sure that here in Australia it's universally July 1 to June 30. Wow.

just under four months till we all find out for sure.

If someone wanted to add somthing like the mario paint idea why would you include it with the package? it would be more successful as a game where you make games.

GI: Sony keeps reiterating the point that high definition doesn’t start until they come to the market…

Moore: This is where I got pissed off with somebody. I’m a big consumer of Sony stuff. I have Sony digital cameras. I have Sony TVs in my house. So it’s funny when they said, was it Phil Harrison that said the real Hi-Def is 1080p? So I go back and look at my Sony TV that’s got High Definition there that outputs at 720p. I either want my money back or I want an explanation. (laughs) High Definition is 720p. It’s good enough for me.

loooooooooooooooooooool :)

Fact : Sony like to sale number. Not final product.
Thay sale sing. Not utility.

eg.
"Wega engin" Thay call all tv thay make wega but only some of it really used that wega engin.

"Sony walkman" Thay just put that sticker to K750i change colour then call W800i then add more price to it.

When thay say cell have 7 core sony's believer say it's 7 time faster (no. it's really 7 time faster only in best case not all the time) .... it's such sony.

maybe they mean the financiel year that starts about march.

This is a routine mistake at the beginning of the year. They said "next year", but surely meant this year, 2006.
