Dev kits out, controller final

I have just heard that Revolution dev kits have been received by at least one Japanese third party developer. The kit includes the controller. Naturally, no word on the big secret. I also cannot say how long this company has had the kit. But at least we know the controller design has been finalised and third party development of Revolution titles is well under way. I cannot name a source, but I can guarantee you this information is 100% accurate.

This is still nothing to do with the news I´m waiting for. But I´m not sure if this piece of information might not actually overshadow that story.

things will begin to leak now. it must have been either square enix or capcom

Falafelkid said...

No, but keep guessing ;)

You are right though. It won´t be long before anyone at this company has mercy with the world, picks up his camera mobile and puts us all out of our misery.

Right, now falafelkid himself's become a source of rumors, stating them to be 100% true. ;-)

Fihu. Are you comparing me to Osoko and those other guys? I am a journalist dealing primarily with videogames. So I have a number of PR contacts for Japanese developers that have a direct line to Japan and know exactly what is going on. So it´s 100%. But that also means I can´t name them. We would all get in trouble for that.

Ok, so not square enix, not capcom, it has to be EA, but you said japanese right? It couldn't be konami could it?

good to hear, good news. i'd just like to hear from someone who officially has played the controller thats it's impressive and we'll all like it. did you get any word on that?

Falafelkid said...

No, sorry. No direct connection, no direct word. I´ll try to ask my source again for more details, but I wouldn´t get my hopes up too high.

No offense meant, see that smiley at the end of my comment? ;-)

You gotta admit, it's kinda ironic...

Sage said...

Sorry but just to clear this up. What company has recieved them? We know it's not capcom or s-e. And no word on Konami. Perhaps Sega?

Falafelkid said...

Hi Fihu - yeah, I did see that smiley. Aber irgendwie fühlte ich wohl unterbewusst das Bedürfnis, mich zu rechtfertigen... ;P

Yo Sage. Sorry but I really can´t tell. It´s not that important either, I guess.

I'm thinking that this could mean Revolution is still on for beginning of 2006 or (::gasp!::) maybe 2005? One can always hope...

I'd personally like it to come before Christmas..that would make one kickass present :)

Falafelkid I'm just wondering is the Revolution going to have great 3rd party support or is it going to be crappy like the Gamecube):

Anonymous said...

Hey I forgot to mention but on the gaming age forums someone named Johnny Nighttrain has said that any Japanese developer worth a damn is going to support the Revolution, now normally I wouldn't believe some random poster on the internet, but to his credit he has been very reliable in past years and he's been correct in the past when giving out his secret info and there's a lot of forum members there who have said he's very trustworthy. Well anyway my question for you falafelkid is, is what this Nighttrain guy saying true, about the 3rd party support and all?

Falafelkid said...

Hey anonymous. I am flattered by you asking me to verify other people´s comments. But, unfortunately, the truth is that I don´t know. I am tempted to agree with that guy but I have no more facts than he has, than you do or anyone else. I have spoken to David Gardner of EA though. He said that the Revolution would be the right console for its demographic. That probably means they´ll support it, but perhaps no more than the Gamecube. Mind you, that was at the E3 and I don´t he had seen the controller yet. That might change for the better... But other than EA, I don´t know.

Ah thanks for the info from what he's said on the GAF boards he has said several times that the 3rd party support is going to be much better on Revolution than it was on Gamecube and he said that the Japanese developers are going to support the Revolution to a larger degree and extent then the GC but I guess we'll just have to wait and see if he was right.

Oh geeze I hope by demographic he's not saying the system is going to be good for only children i.e. the whole kiddy situation again. Don't get me wrong I have no problem playing games like Pikmin and Mario its just that it would be nice if Nintendo could expand its market to include a large number of older gamers. And right now the only way Nintendo can do that is if they get some good 3rd party support going for their system but still David Gardner's comments on how the system will appeal to its demographic doesn't fill me with hope.

Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting him to say Revolution is gonna kick PS3's ass or anything like that, but it'd be nice if he had said something like, "I think the Revolution is gonna surprise a lot of people." But right now its looking like the Revolution is going to be another Gamecube again, very few third party titles, an overabundant use of IP's, more marketshare loss and of course more bashing from the gaming public on how its kiddy. BTW sorry if I come off as so pessimistic but its just really hard to cheer for Nintendo at this point since they continually lose more and more marketshare and slide into obscurity. Heh maybe I'm overreacting and the Revolution really will surprise a lot of us.

Falafelkid said...

Well, Nintendo won´t "slide into obscurity", I am sure. Gardner´s comments were not exactly showing strong support. But EA have chosen to ignore consoles completely (Dreamcast). Also, like I said, I am sure that Gardner had not seen the controller by this point. So if Nintendo will surprise all of us, they will surely surprise EA also. And their support of the Gamecube was quite okay. Even Medal of Honor came out for it. They just didn´t do any exclusives on it. So, let´s wait and see. I am sure 3rd party support will be good.

Anonymous said...

Well, EA doesnt really publish any exclsuive games for any particular consoles (just sometimes they have a bad habbit of ignoring gamecube when it comes to MULTI-platform games)
