Internet pioneer and publisher Tim O´Reilly, who invented the term ´Web 2.0´, has praised the Wii as anticipating the next big paradigm shift in computing, often referred to as ´Web 3.0´.
The interview was conducted for 3sat neues, the German technology show I now work for. I asked O´Reilly at last week´s Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin about what he thought ´Web 3.0´ might be. The relevant quote is 20:45 minutes into the interview.
It´s going to be about a new relationship with the physical world. And we already see it with, for example, the gestural interface on the iPhone. We see it with the Nintendo Wii gestural controller. Where we are interacting physically, you know, rather than typing on a keyboard.

ReplyDeletegrüsse Irrelevant Annoying laughing stock
hes giving wii way 2 much props.
ReplyDeletethe wiimote for the internet is hardly gesture based. it works exactly like a mouse realy. sme thing but looks cooler. if you typed by drawing letters in the sky, then the wii would deserve his prase bt its the same as a computer at the moment.
falafel määäääääääään
ReplyDeleteich muss die ganze zeit grinsen während ich galaxy zock :))))
- The irrelevant
I think he's right, the next big thing is going to be physical interaction instead of just typing on a computer.

The question will be how will the web interact with the gestural interfaces. nz guy is right in saying that he's giving it too much props... if we're talking about the present.
ReplyDeleteBut the potential is there for it to be so much more. It HAS to interact like a mouse, because the platform does not exist for us to interact with the web in a gestural way.
maybe if we think minority report when they using the gloves to operate the com screen thing, if you get what i mean. but thats way to advanced, or bullshit, for a wiimote.
ReplyDeleteyou would have to completly re-invent the internet in terms of display and browsing to pull gesture crap off.
Hi everyone. Just another reminder: Please don´t post any blatant advertisement. Any such content (eBay links or other commercial offers) will be deleted immediately. Thanks.
