The PlayStation3 will launch in Japan in November, the Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun has learned. This news comes only a few hours ahead of Sony´s conference, where the announcement will be made official. 1up has the story.
There aren't many details out right now, but Sony says issues over the finalization of copy protection technology related to their Blu-ray disc drive is the cause of the delay.
When asked for a comment, a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson only went on record saying that SCEI has not issued any official statement itself yet.
While Europe had expected the PS3 to launch here no earlier than 2007, gamers in the States will be shocked at the prospect of Sony´s console missing out on the christmas season. I have always been expecting a delay of the PS3, but I never would have guessed a launch in Japan as late as November. The late launch also suggests that it´s too early for Sony to announce a price yet.

FINALLY. i was worried that they might continue to be silent and push it back until nintendo showed their entire hand, and take advantage of the delay time to again copy everything nintendo does...
ReplyDeletefalafelkid, do you think it's possible for sony to do stereo3d on top of 1080p with the ps3? COULD they even copy nintendo on this?
-tactics.
you know... it didnt occur to me that a november japan launch might mean that ps3 wont come to the USA until '07... that would be a DREAM COME TRUE for nintendo fans:
ReplyDeletewith the revolution price point estimated well below $299, why would anyone (especially kids) *wait* for the ps3, when they could go ahead and get the revolution for xmas no problem? nobody would wait. many would still INTEND on *also* buying a ps3, but nobody would wait. xbox360 and nintendo revolution sales will be through the ROOF this xmas... dang that would rock.
-tactics.
Hi Tactics. You know, I don´t think so. For a start, pushing 1080p in a 3D environment seems too daunting. Even if it could be done, the peripherals nevessary would push the manufacturing cost of the console well into four-figure sums. So no, I hardly think so.
ReplyDeleteOh, and yeah. A 2007 US launch for the PS3 would leave the doors wide open for Nintendo. Ninty has almost got it too easy this time...
ReplyDeleteyessssssss!
ReplyDelete-tactics.
btw, falafelkid, good luck with shiggy tomorrow. make him remember you. i'm going to do the same on the 23rd. i live in san jose, and can almost walk to the convention center from my apartment... so i'm going down there with a big-ass cardboard sign that says (one one side) "THE SECOND COMING" with a pic of shiggys face, and on the other "IWATA-SAN IT IS TIME - DROP THE" and then a big picture of a marioworld "bob-omb".
i'm such a fool... i'll probably be crucified, but i dont care! this is going to rule!
Interesting..... I guess that tomorrow we will find out for sure, also this means good news for nintendo since they want to release the Rev. around Christmas.......

ReplyDeleteThanks alot!
(I know you already prepared your interview, but pleeeeez!)
On topic: Not so good for Sony! They are too confident that they will win again! But Xbox360 and of course Revolution will show PS3 where to go!
What if it is a synchronized launch in the US and Japan? Or at least a week or two off. That would make sense, Sony heads aren't stupid.
ReplyDeleteFonzie be praised!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. Well well, it looks like Nintendo has got the break they needed. The Playstation 3 is turning into as much a pain for Sony to get it out on the market as it will be for all of us to get the money to buy the thing.
I was reading a 1up article on the pricing of the system and it does indeed sound pretty bad for both us(if you plan on buying a PS3) and them. Almost $900 to make the system and it has to be at least $400 to be competitive with the 360 and certainly the Revolution. The system is just too much on all levels.
I haven't even mentioned the problems that developers are going to have as well. Bottlenecks and games that offer nothing new in terms of gameplay.
Graphics that will be incredible for a while, but they wear thin once you get used to them and realize that nothing really has changed since the PS2.
Once the system does come out, the Revolution will be here already and the Xbox360 will have Halo 3(probably) and second generation software that will most likely look way better than the rushed games on PS3. Brand name alone can't save Sony this time. I don't think we will see the true potential of the PS3 until 2008 at the earliest and by then its not going to matter because the division lines will be drawn and the Revolution will already be in its prime.
I'm a big Nintendo fan, but I'm speaking the truth. I really think Sony has shot themselves in the foot this time.
Hey Falafelkid,
ReplyDeleteIs your interview still going down on wednesday? If so good luck! Also do you know how soon you'll have the interview up? And one last thing, Can I link to it? I always like to ask permission because I never know when people will get angry! Thanks for doing the Gaming community a service!
KLind
Today there were some good news depending the PS3. So I just hope, you will get us some good news from the Mastermind by asking him some intresting stuff in the interview. I keep waiting and hoping, until you post it :)
ReplyDeletewann kommt das interview mit miaymoto?
ReplyDeletehey flafaelkid: Could you please ask Miyamoto what he thinks about the worldwide PS3 launch in November? Maybe, then he will provide something about the rev launch or so....
ReplyDeletesry, it's for german-speakers only.

daaaaaaaaang! i guess it was all wishful thinking yesterday... a worldwide 6 million unit launch, huh?
ReplyDeletedang. bastards.
i'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're lying, or that something goes horribly wrong before then ;)
-tactics.
If you read IGN's report they say 6 million released in their fiscal year which ends on March 2007. They have said they will ship 1 million units after release. That means they will launch worldwide with 2 million consoles. It's not that much considering they have said they will also release in Autralia at the same time too.
ReplyDeleteoops. I skippe a few words there. They have said they will ship 1 million units each month after release.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably excuse Falafel's tardiness in catching up with the PS3 news (like anyone cares... =p) since he is probably out drinking with Shiggy right now and picking up chicks. How about that for a wingman...
ReplyDeleteHere is an interesting quote by Shiggy from an interview he did with Nintendo-Europe.com
ReplyDelete“In the case of Revolution, there is going to be a lot of software that are so-called 'sequels' to the existing type of games, however what is going to be the most attractive point about Revolution is the other applications. These kind of applications are going to make Revolution something really important for any ordinary household; more specifically catering for each type of family member in the house.”
I also forgot to mention...he always said almost everything will be revealed at E3:
ReplyDeleteSo when can we expect to find out more about Revolution? For instance will everything be revealed at E3?
“Almost everything,” he laughs. “I don’t know about the pricing at the moment or anything like that but, yes, basically at E3.”
price...
ReplyDeleteman... that'd be hilarious if nintendo just came out and decided to "take a hit" on each console like microsoft and sony are doing...
$49.99! nah, fuggit! $19.99!
seriously though, imagine the market penetration... if a brand new next-gen console came out for 20 bucks - and with some bad ass marketing to the "blue ocean" who WOULDNT buy it?
i'd buy 10.
-tactics.
nintendo needs to go all out with the blue ocean strategy.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/15/nintendo...tes-management/
read that article. thats where they need their games to go. they need new and unusual stuff. not just the usual video games, but games that will appeal to everyone. two other examples are the cooking sim and the surgeon sim. playing metroid and ssbm isnt going to do it, they will appeal to most people who play games right now, but not to the people that dont care about games. and why dont those "other people" care about video games? who knows, all we know is that it IS NOT working. therefore i say ditch the old idea of video games, and go for the new generation of video games. games that reach the other audience. i feel if nintendo does not spend A MAJORITY of their resources coming up with these new gen games, they will stay exactly where they are and will not gain their blue ocean audience as they want. when i say majority, i expect to see half of all games on the shelves as new generation games, and not the usual video games.
i feel this is the only way nintendo will gain any marketshare.
and therefore, i feel they are doomed. nintendo may support this new concept of games but i think most third parties will not, and they will make traditional games. therefore, not enough new gen and the blue ocean audience will not care.
doomed? well sir, you are wrong. plain and simple.
ReplyDeletenintendo wins this console race. most hardware units sold, most soft:hard ratio sold, and highest profit margin.
all three.

oh, and how about ol' kenny calling ps3 "4d"... seems to be a pre-emptive PR strike, edging for superior sounding lingo against... whom?
ReplyDelete4d? 3d?
-tactics.
tactics, you are wrong. they are doomed to repeat exactly the opposite of the blue ocean strategy unless they produce a massive amount of new gen games.
ReplyDeletethe current type of video games ARE NOT selling to the blue ocean people. no doubt about that. something must be done.
i do agree with you about the 4d as a preemptive strike on a possible 3d rev.
ReplyDeletetheir playing ms's game in how they named the 360.
but at the same time, they cant be stupid. neglecting the "madden's" and the "need for speed's" and the "soul caliber's" etc, causes them to lose out on half of their strategy. these quirky niche games, like the diabetes one, or the brain training games can NOT take up the "majority" of nintendo's resources. this will give them the biggest chance to take a fall because their top-selling franchises (ie: mario, metroid, mario kart, zelda) do not appeal to these niche market consumers.
ReplyDeletethey need to focus the majority of their efforts on first-party IP, and outsource/sub-contract quirky niche games to small indy developers with a tiny budget and an immense hunger for success.
the end.
-tactics.
I can't wait the interview of Miyamoto! Post it soon Andreas!
ReplyDeleteLuca S. (Italy)
Ok, I think PS3 will be launched in 2007.
ReplyDeleteThey say that the launch will next November and worldwide to avoid people from getting a Rev.
They did the same with the 360 sayng that the launch would be this Spring 2006 even knowing that nobody would believe this fairy tale. I wont believe them anymore.
And all this 4D thing could mean 2 different posibilities:
1. they are originally the company behind the 3D out of the TV graphicx.
or
2. They are aware that Nintendo is bringing new tecnology to the industry so the intention would be to counter Nintendo future marketing campain
I'm so sick of Sony and their bullshit. It won't cost as much as analysts estimate, because it won't have all the features and it certainly won't have the performance and capabilities that Sony says it will. The PS2 has taught us that Sony blatantly lies because, unfortunately, it works for those that don't know any better. It took years for people to finally accept the fact that PS2 was the weakest of the last generation.
ReplyDeleteanon...
ReplyDeletethe rev is going to be 3d, dude. face the facts.

ooh and Annonimous is there for a reason, no account needed...
ReplyDeleteSo where is the interview?
ReplyDeleteMorton J i'll send some money... LOL
ReplyDeleteOh my god, stop flaming at Falafelkid immediatly! It's absolutely OK for me that he doesn't post an interview on the same day he has made it, especially because of some minor issues like writing it down (it probably exists only in audio, just like every interview before it is written)
ReplyDeleteFalafelkid does a fantastic job in reporting and commenting every nintendo related news he can get, he owes you nothing.
People like you make me sick, always complaining about things you even get for free.
I will wait patiently for the interview and i am thankful that he even made it.
Fal, keep up the good work, thanks for everything.
some people have no sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteSomeone knows where i can download the revolution teaser seen in october? (it was at T.G.S.?)
ReplyDeleteI have retrieved only streaming version.
Thanks
Luca S. (Italy)
Nintendo Europe have info from Miyamoto basically confirming rev remote to use with Zelda.
ReplyDeleteA nintendo employee on GAF boards also mentioned that the remote maybe able to be used as a bow etc.
the interview will be available on spiegel.de tomorrow. i don't know if he'll also posts the interview here before tomorrow.
ReplyDeletei'm guessing he will make a new topic about it.
ReplyDeleteand tactics, i still think your wrong. -the end.
look at this! yamauchi sounds like a total ass. i never knew he was so freaking arrogant!!! he actually makes fun of his own potential gamers! while everyone else touts (or makes stuff up) their games/systems in a positive light, he dogs on rpg'ers. what an ass. and to think he still owns the majority of the company. i'm putting the power of my cash to work this generation and will NOT be getting a revolution just because of this fool. god i wish i would have known earlier.
ReplyDeletehttp://revolution.ign.com/articles/695/695785p1.html
Ign has confirmation that Zelda will use Rev controller! Head over to revolution.ign.com! I'm so against this my eyes are bleeding!
ReplyDelete-MNT
dont worry about PS3, success is all about the games... I went to Ebgames yesterday and someone was getting interviewed by CBC news. I overherd the conversation and the guy was saying, I own a 360 but i barely even play it, instead i play by Nintendo DS cuz the games are great !!
ReplyDeleteInnovative software that miyamoto was talking will lead to the Rev's success.

Fal has decided tp leave the blog, just as fakers left, he also has...
ReplyDeleteNot saying he is a faker, just got a better oppoetunity and decided to leave this blog to the crapper....
FIN.
Falafelkid is Gay and ran away with miyamoto - san...
ReplyDeletenow they are in Japan, making love and playing the next mario....
Please go away and just relax, alright? :)
ReplyDeletehi there buddies,
ReplyDeletei talked to falafel hours ago. he's still living in Germany, miyamoto's still living in japan, none of them is gay, they don't make love and hell, they don't play the next mario title (falafelkid hadn't even played NSMB yesterday).
I don't want to spoil the whole interview (at least, i just know the questions and only ONE really, really weird answer), because falafelkid will release the interview on 2(?) different sites (spiegel.de, diezeit.de(?)) and of course RTL2. i don't want to make him troubles ;)
ps.: falafel mentioned, that the story about "Miyamoto confirms Revo Twilight Princess support" was his one.
pn18<3
ReplyDelete-tactics.
I don't care, if Falafel is gay, or has / had sex with miyamoto and / or bruce darnell (with highheels on) HAHA! I just want that interview up!
ReplyDeleteThe article at:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/netzkultur/0,1518,406292,00.html.
Discusses Shiguru indicating TP being playable on rev.
The article ends with "Mehr dazu lesen sie morgen auf SPIEGEL ONLINE."
Roughly translated: "read more about it on Spiegel Online"
sorry. the above comment should read "read more about it tomorrow on Spiegel Online"
ReplyDeleteI recommend to everyone the bbc 30 min ducumentary on nintendo, its very informative and fun: especially for those who like to look into the yamauchi personality. Its a shame, its not on google video anymore
ReplyDeleteThis worries me because if they launch a while after nintendo then it gives them plenty of time to cum up with a stratege to counter the rev.
ReplyDeleteIf that is possable
Nintendo and Sony are playing games with each other. It is expected.
ReplyDeleteI miss the Nintendo and Sega days. Quite amusing things happened back then.
agreed... the nintendo/sega rivalry always seemed like, in the end, it was still a bit fun... sony has just turned it all so cutthroat... maybe thats just my perception. who knows. nintendo were little ass holes back in the day about market share... but still. nintendo and sega still have a good relationship it seems.
ReplyDeletesony sucks.

Hi falfel, congratulations for the site, nice work.
