Who owns the ´Eternal Darkness´ franchise?

Slightly off-topic, but some people (Hello, Shoxware_Games) are very interested in whether there will be an ´Eternal Darkness´ sequel and whether it will come to a Nintendo console. Basically, it boils down to the question: Who owns the ´Eternal Darkness´ franchise? I asked Rob DePetris, Vice President of finance and administration at development studio Silicon Knights and he just mailed me this rather surprising response:
Andreas, it was nice talking to you as well. We appreciate your interest in Silicon Knights and we are glad you liked Eternal Darkness. We cannot comment on Eternal Darkness and on any future plans related to it at this time.

We are currently busy focusing our efforts on Too Human for the Xbox 360. If you would like to discuss this game we could try to set up an interview.

Thanks for your interest.
On the phone some days ago, Rob said that he would have to check with the legal team. It appears that the deal with Nintendo is not as clear cut as I had thought. Maybe Nintendo at least co-owns the franchise. That would mean that an ´Eternal Darkness´ sequel would have to come to a Nintendo console or there would either be no sequel at all.

Here, in france, all my friends and I loved play this game. Actually, on forums, there is a "ED revival": non-casual gamers are discovering this "little treasure."

so, thanks for this little hope falafel :)

  6. Hi Thunder_Emperor. Yeah, happy new year to you too! Let´s hope we will all have as successful a year as Nintendo probably will. Just spoke to THQ today and they seem very excited about the console. When will we get new info, though? I don´t know, but there should be new info before E3, that´s for sure. In fact, we might only have to wait until GDC in March to find out a great deal more about the console. On the conference´s website it says: "GDC 2006 Conference keynote speakers will be announced by January, 2006."
