Xbox360 will cost $470 in Switzerland

As has been picked up by too many websites to give credit to, Microsoft has apparently leaked the Xbox360´s price tag. The Swiss Microsoft Partner Portal lists the console as ´being worth 600 Swiss Franks´. Currently, that amounts to a staggering $477,44 or €386,71.

However, this leak may be an indicator of the European price tag only. In the US, things may turn out differently. The predecessor´s European launch price was €479, while the console was considerably cheaper in the US, at $299 (given an exchange rate parity at the time). Consoles are usually cheaper in the US.

As far as Europe is concerned, Microsoft has not learned their lesson, it seems. Only four weeks after the release of the original Xbox, widespread criticism forced them to drop the price by €180 to €299 and reimburse early buyers. This was nothing short of a disaster. If the new console will cost around €399, I anticipate a similar wave of dissent.

The basic version for 299$ will feature a non-wireless controller, an A/V cable, a faceplate (dunno what it is ^^ and a X-Box Live Silver Account.

The Premium version for 399$ will feature a 20GB HDD, a wireless joypad, a faceplate, a hedset, a HD A/V cable, ethernet cable, XBox live Silver Acount and for a short time with a remote control.

    I hope it's understandable, I'm German. ;)

  2. Here are some news from the games convention in germany. Nothing important, but I think you are(like I am) happy about hearing, that the Revo is still set to release some day. ;-)

  3. Why release two seperate systems? So you can have two sets of consumers for the developers to make games for? One with HDD support and one without.. and no wireless controller for $300? Come on!

And in the IGN Cube mailbag (Aug 15) Matt says there will be rev info very shortly after Leipzig, and in the 16th's mailbag he says it isn't a guess.

I know you want to believe the new Nintendo revolution is going to be great but there has to be a limit to what you can allow your beliefs to stretch to.

Falafel has deleted it because he obviously made it up...there is no other coherant reason to delete your own news...

  16. Hey fafafelkid, why did you remove those two posts about the interviews? Btw, this is a good site. I check it daily :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'll second that - this does appear to be one of the better blogs around, which is why the deletion of posts is so perplexing.

  18. To the anonymous who thinks Molyneux isn't working with Nintendo:

Black and White is from Molyneux and DS is from Nintendo.

    ReplyDelete
  19. why they would show it to people who are not working whit Nintendo. becouse they want games on the new Nintendo so they try to get more game developers.

  20. Where did the other posts go? Please tell me you weren't faking it.

This might just be a glitch or something, when I was reading the molyneux comments I refreshed to see if there were more, but the list cut down to the first few comments. I even posted a comment and it was still that way. I looked back later and they were all back, except for the comment I posted while they were gone.

  26. If you follow the path of that those two posts you will find that in some web sites were taken has big news and caused hype, and in some cases they didn't even include a link to this blog and much less RTL2 received any credit, so Falafel made a mistake posting them before it was shown by RTL2, he did it the wrong way, i do not doubt that he finally realized this, but all the same it was too late anyway, but RTL2 must have told him to delete the posts maybe

  27. Taken from GC Advanced. :-)

RUMOR: A fury of internet activity is centered around Nintendo's next generation gaming console.

The Internet publication, Computer Games Magazine is reporting that they have the inside scoop regarding Nintendo's next generation console.

The site is saying that the Revolution controller will feature a device that provide "resistance to being tilted". It doesn't sound like much, but to accomplish this, the controller would have to generate a sufficient force of inertia.

For those who haven't taken AP physics, inertia is defined as the tendency of a body to resist acceleration; the tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or of a body in straight line motion to stay in motion in a straight line unless acted on by an outside force.

A practical application of inertia comes from the simple act of riding a bike. As your bike accelerates it becomes increasingly harder to tilt.

It is still unknown as to how this application could affect the game play of next generation titles. Please note that this has yet to be confirmed by any official source, and that their could be other details regarding the controller of the Revolution.

GC Advanced promises to keep you updated about this developing story as further details are revealed. If necessary the Advanced Media Network will follow this story throughout the night with hourly updates.

    -----------------------------------UPDATE - 2:30 AM Eastern
    by Chris Playo

The Internet forum, Gaming Age is speculating that further details about the Nintendo Revolution will be made available on Wednesday August 24th. For those who do not know the significance of the date, both the GBA and the GameCube were discussed on that day.

However, news regarding the Revolution may have come a little sooner than expected. On the forum, a user posted a French article regarding the graphical capabilities of the console.

Apparently the Revolution will utilize a new form of a polygon currently referred to as a NURB or nonuniform rational B-splines. These NURB's are said to be able to generate very detailed graphics within an enormous scope.

In addition, NURB's are known to be much more efficient than standard polygons. It is much easier on a machine to generate an image in terms of NURB's rather than traditional polygons. This fact regarding the new type of image formatting fits very well into Nintendo's design for the Revolution.
Given the inherent design of NURB curves, the Revolution could be substantially smaller and less powerful than the competition but would still be comparable.

Please remember that this information has not been confirmed by any official source. However, for a detailed history of NURB's check out this page. GC Advanced will keep you updated regarding this developing story

  47. NURBS require more CPU power than polygons. Yeah they are technically more powerful and detailed.. but to be honest the reason why polygons are used is because past a cetain point the detail is irrelevant.

A sphere is a sphere with polygons or NURBS but it's much easier and more effecient to use polys. NURBS is high class movie CG animation stuff guys. It's not good for applications that require player control over the action along with underlying game code (AI, physics, etc etc).

NURBS aren't practical or the best option with tech we have now, and I can imagine Nintendo would be able to deliver that tech in a box going for $299 or less.

That french website doesn't know what it's talking about (figures they'd be french).

Anyway.. what happened to the Naka and Molyneux posts? Removed? Is Nintendo clamping down?!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wouldn't expect an answer from Falafelkid today since he said he would post again by the weekend, but wouldn't be too much to ask him to give us a simple explanation about the last two posts that are now down

    ReplyDelete
  50. Why don't you use your real nick ? Instead of hiding...

I told u at the beginning that the forum was crap.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Your comment about NURBs requiring more CPU power isn't true - quite the opposite. If you've used 3d software like Maya for instance, you would know that NURBs surfaces are very interactive in the viewport. You can typically look at a complex NURBs surface without any slow down, whereas meshes with high polycounts tend to get a bit grindy. Vector based graphics are always going to be faster...

In the last 5 years there has been a notable shift away from using NURBs models in highend graphics now that subdivision surfaces are pretty robust and widely supported (pixar invented sub-ds). It's much easier to model an organic object with polygons, but NURBs are great for mechanical objects, cars, and architecture.

Maybe it's ment so, that the English and American people get ther christmas presents not at the 24. December, but in the morning of the 25.
Tomroow will probably be a great day in the history of gaming. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well to expand on my RAM theory..

Nintendo WAS exploring going for XDR RAM this generation (what the PS3 is using), but I'm sure they pulled back because of cost and the fact that 1T-SRAM Q gets about 25% better performance at a 5% reduction in cost compared to the original 1T-SRAM. The only reason there wasn't more in the GameCube was because Nintendo wanted to sell it at $199. Seriously.. if they sold that system at $299 there prolly would have been like 64-128 MB of RAM in it, and it would have been BY FAR the most powerful console this generation. However, since Xbox360 and PS3 have basically wanked all over themselves trying to top pixel shader numbers and hit that 3.2 GHz mark with as many cores as they can dream up.. they made some sacrifices. Like shitty cache and having to split 512MB total between these beastly GPUs and CPUs.

Seriously.. I don't have anything to gain from this. I'm not even bothering to make an account for this blogging site. But I'm telling you.. Nintendo will go for a lower clocked processor (not by a whole lot either) and will have 512 MB main system memory, and 512 MB for its GPU.

ATi and IBM have confirmed that Nintendo has spent just about as much money as Microsoft has on their system. They will use more RAM and the developer will have more control over it this time (not like the audio ram situation on the GameCube).

    And just for kicks...

    Believe.

    MOLYNEUX'S REVOLUTION COMMENTS CONFIRMED
    Posted: 11:44 on 24 Aug 2005
    By: Chris Leyton

After mounting speculation recent Revolution comments were unreliable, TVG discovers that the Lionhead's chief certainly doesn't underestimate Nintendo...

The Definitive Nintendo Revolution Blog has come under a lot of stick recently after comments with Sonic Team head Yuji Naka and Lionhead supreme Peter Molyneux at the Leipzig Games Convention bizarrely went missing from the site following a number of larger publications quoting the article.

However today TVG has been in touch with Lionhead who confirmed that Molyneux did indeed make such comments which leads to the suggestion that both quotes did happen and are not the product of imagination that many have now labelled them as; so Naka-san under a strict NDA but describing the Revolution controller as “pleasantly surprising”, while Molyneux reminds us never to underestimate Nintendo.

TVG is expecting a Revolution announcement to occur very soon and will be at a Nintendo event tomorrow dubbed “Christmas comes early this year…”; we’ll have further information very shortly…

  84. The quote from Molyneux may well have been genuine, however the quote from James Brown (Jim Brown) of Epic Games, that was also deleted (that many people have confirmed reading), was completely fabricated.

After the post containing this quote was deleted, I decided to mail Jim Brown (James Brown) of Epic Games, and confirm if he had in fact met with an RTL journalist and discussed the revolution.

    here is his response:

Just to be perfectly clear, I have not made any statements whatsoever
about the Revolution, and (like most people) have had absolutely zero
contact with the hardware. The only information I have about the
console was gained from the presentations made at E3, and would
therefore have no information other than what is currently in the public
    domain.

    Regards,

    -Jim Brown

This to my mind calls in to question the reliablity of this blog. There is also something to be said about a journalist that would essentially steal his employers scoop for personal gain. Presumably Falafelkid was paid by RTL to attend the conference, and any interview material should have remained their property.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Falafelkid never posted an interview with James Brown, regardless of what some of his anonymous readers said.

(Yes, I realize how ironic that sounds)

But just think about it. He runs a Nintendo blog, so he's obviously a fan, and he gets two positive interviews about the Revolution. So why on earth would he then go and make up a decidedly more negative quote? Also, he explained the copyright situation in a comment on one of the two now-gone posts. I don't remember what he said exactly, but he said he was within the law.

Furthermore, (I just keep going on and on!), if the Molyneux quote has indeed been confirmed, then what is there left to cast doubt on? He's not made any other outlandish claims.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It wasn't an interview. It was this quote:

"Some more news from Leipzig. James Brown from Epic Games (who is working on UT2007) delivered this message when asked about the Revolution:

"I, too, have seen the controller. I can see why some developers are approving the idea, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. For sure. For example, I don't see sports developers like EA engaging themselves with this technology. What I do predict is many games....well, think Wario Ware."

I read this here, and many others have confirmed that they did as well. It was deleted shortly after it was posted (but not shortly enough to prevent the quote spreading around the net).

    ReplyDelete
  87. I don't understand either really. I thought this was a good blog, and was pleased to discover it, until the oddness with the quotes began.

  98. A supposition: Can it be that our Falafel-Andreas is in Japan during theses days because of the "big event"? That could be the reason for him that he cannot be online.

  99. I'm really fed up with all those fakes, Friday will be the day or yesterday was the day...

I think one day all websites like gamespot, ign or gamekult will announce something like this:
"We receive an official nintendo press announcement and there will be a presentation the ...th ..."
And they will receive this announcement at least a week or two before this event.
    No?

  102. I agree with you anonymous : when Nintendo presents their Revolution, they will give a precise date to the journalists at least two weeks before the event...

And drum eagle, I hope you're aware that the Internet exists in Japan, so if Falafelkid would like to update his blog, he could do it !

  103. they will reveal new infos at TGS

  104. Seeing that total video games confirmed his statements, he must have gotten some kind of ban either from RTL2 or Nintendo

  105. Okay, schon kapiert :p
Das ein paar Tage vor der Präsentation der Termin an die Presse und somit an uns weitergegeben wird ist am wahrscheinlichsten.

  106. Well, if anyone is still reading this blog, it appears that all of the details of the Revolution, including the controller, and Mario128 will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show on September 16th.

  108. I believe this is true. Enough with the speeches about how gaming has to change for the better; show us Nintendo! Why else would they invite all these special guests from the Press to see this at the Tokyo Game Show? SPONG, make me a believer in you.

  111. It is one of the most unreliable sources for gaming news. They use rumors as truth. Sometimes they get things right, but not much. I don't have any specific examples because I stoppoed going there a while ago.

  112. Um what happened to the 2 stories above this one you know the ones about Naka and Peter seeing the Revolution? They were here originally but now they're gone.
