Game Helix: "Revolution will launch in May. One more big secret up Nintendo´s sleeve."

This is astounding news from the Game Helix toolbar news service, which makes me slightly suspicious. But here it is:
ITS OFFICIAL NINTENDO REVOLUTION IN MAY!

Nintendo is aiming for a MAY Release date! This is official news straight from Nintendo! Nintendo wants to show off the hardware in May and launch the system worldwide the same month. This is as much of a marketing tactic as it is designed to give time for the developers to complete the games. "There is one more secret left" say Reggie Fils-Aime. "That secret will be shown to the world at E3 in May of 2006. Then everyone will understand the reason behind the controller's design and its capabilities." Mr. Fils-Aime stressed the importance of consumers needing to see the Revolution in action to truly understand it. Furthermore he feels that once the Revolution is shown in its entirety that it will generate a gaming mania and that it is very important to launch the product soon thereafter to capitalize on the excitement. What is the big secret? Your guess is as good as any. I guess we will have to wait until E3 next year to find out. Look for an update for this story with an exact day in May as soon as it is available. This story was an exclusive interview brought to you by GAMEHELIX! In other words if you don't have the GAMEHELIX toolbar chances are your fellow gamers have no clue about this information.
EDIT Right, I´ve done some research into this and I guess this news must be fake. Anyone can construct a toolbar like that and get their own URL on the effectivebrand server. In fact, I have a pretty good idea who is behind this:
The latest trend in gaming seems to be coming from the new GAMEHELIX Toolbar that you can download onto your desktop to get the latest news. If you remember I first wrote an article about this a couple of days ago as it began popping up on sites all over the web. With news from IGN updated 24/7 it is absolutely amazing.

Well the hottest trend now is the ability to chat through the toolbar. So I decided that I would join this latest phenomenom.

SeriousGamer007 will be holding a chat every Friday at 4:00PM Pacific Time through the GAMEHELIX Toolbar. That is right! No need for IM anymore. I will be chatting with Gamers for the first time in a long time this Friday at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. Don't have the toolbar installed yet?

Dang you need to get with the latest, hottest thing to do in gaming.

Don't worry click on the link below! It ROCKS!

http://gamehelix.ourtoolbar.com/

Spread the word to all your fellow gamers. This Friday SG007 will answer your hard questions. How I get my information. And just maybe even who I am.

This is one event you don't want to miss. Make sure you get all your gamers in there. Because this chat will only be available on the NEW AND LATEST TOOLBAR....GAMEHELIX!!!

SG007 is revealing all this Friday! Get in the HELIX or get OUT!

Well, I think GameHelix is run by SeriousGamer007 and his (alleged) crew...

Anonymous said...

Sounds like smart marketing by GameHelix to encourage every gamer in the world to download it's toolbar. Sounds doubtful that they would hold an exclusive press release for only Game Helix, but what do I know.

Anonymous said...

I know, I just downloaded it. As to anonymous, I don't think Falafel would have posted it if he didn't know about Game Helix and trust it as a reputible source.

Shoxware Games said...

that one statement of reggie hints out on the visor! with the controller and the possibilities. you know, i don't wanna sound like one of these fake-bloggers, but it turns out like that. but to be honest, it can't go that way, because the technology for an possible "nintendo on" would be way too expensive and wouldn't match nintendo's philosophy.
what do you think?

Falafelkid said...

Hi Anonymous: Wow, you were fast. It took me some research to find that out. I just edited the post. Again, I should have looked in the comments first.

Falafelkid said...

Hi Shoxware Games: I guess it´s all academic now. Anonymous was right all along. It´s SG007. He created that toolbar and faked the news item.

Anonymous said...

UNINSTALLED.

Jeeze, good work anonymous.

Falafelkid said...

Yeah. How fast did he discredit that story...?

Anonymous said...

I checked his blog last week and he was advertising for that toolbar, so when I saw the news I remembered the name "Game Helix".

Falafelkid said...

Well, good effort, again! *roaring applause*

Anonymous said...

I agree with Shoxware - Did anyone see that video of some visor company (I think) where the man demonstrating had a stick in his hand, which when processed in the computer turned into a flower, then drove a car, etc.

It seems like there will be a visor, and that the controller will be seen as something when you look at it in-game, eg. Samus' arm cannon, Link's sword.

This would also support why Nintendo are not showing any screenshots, because every game will be in first person!

Falafelkid said...

Hi loz. Thank you for your comment. You know what? I still believe that actually is a possibility. Significantly lowered hardware specs, the near-portable size of the console... all that would really fit with something like a visor or likewise... I have never really ruled that out completely, though I wouldn´t want to get my hopes up too high, either.

Falafelkid said...

@grahf: "I know, I just downloaded it. As to anonymous, I don't think Falafel would have posted it if he didn't know about Game Helix and trust it as a reputible source."

Hi, I´m really sorry for that misjudgement on my part. I just saw the toolbar download page which looked pretty professional to me. I just didn´t realise that anyone could make this kind of toolbar, that it was an open service like blogger. Sorry again.

Well, instead of a visor, it could be something simple like glasses. Remember that Nintendo doesn't want to scare the non-gamer. The controller looks likea remote ; if anything must be added to control the game, I suppose that they'll be wanting to make it similar to an ordinary thing too.

Anonymous said...

Man i dont believe this guy he so a liar and also since I got Rev Reserved i know will be coming After May, and i am not doing this thing to be as serious gamer. See ya all!

Falafelkid said...

@ XG_SHADOW: What´s your point?

Anonymous said...

if this is fake. I think its well done. and really thought about it. I admire this piece of work realy. its great even you took it Falafelkid.

aplaus if its fake. I still not sure it could be the truth.

Anonymous said...

well, i was shocked when i read the news... then i scrolled down... oh... fake... :-( but well, why dosen´t seriousgamer leave us alone? he is a bigger attention whore than daniel küblböck, lol! (daniel küblböck = a very big wannabe star in germany)

Shoxware Games said...

sorry to wrap things up again, but when i think about it, a visor (well, maybe not that ON helmet) but something like glasses are very realistic indeed. let's think back a little while. iwata-san mentioned once, nintendo wants to change the following: controller is linked to console, console is linked to tv. well, we got our wireless remote, but where's the console linked to?
but maybe it's just my imagination...

@ coldblooder: erwarte schon die news, dass sich seriousgamer die ohren annähen lässt ;-))

Falafelkid said...

@coldblooder: SG007 IST der Küblböck, Mensch! ;P

@Anonymous: "visor... my ass!" OMG, you are so right! It´s an ass visor!!! Remember Iwata: "You will say ´wow´!" It´s been staring me in the face: your ass, that is. (Oh, and if you expect a reply that makes sense, please try posting something that makes sense in the first place, okay?)

Anonymous said...

evtl. hat küblböck ja "seriousgamer007" als künsterlanem im ausweis stehen ^^

back on topic:

i think that a visor really is possible, BUT (like someone said before) it will look like normal glasses. a visor with an weird and futuristic look would really scare people away rather than make them curious. i can´t imagine myself playing with a visor that looks like a virtual boy (just as an example...) something like normal glasses is fine for me as a visor...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, ordinary glasses. That's what I said.

Falafelkid said...

There are technological variants (using a special stereoscopic plate of glass) that do away with any kind of headgear. Everyone can see the imge - and even walk around it. If anything, that would be it.

Anonymous said...

I fail to see the improvements it could bring though. There must be something I don't get.

Anonymous said...

Could it be glases? I mean, the Rev Video gamers hadn't glases at all, but okay this could be also purpose from Nintendo.
I think the date May is cool, but I think it comes a bit later. In any case the Rev comes out after the E3, so letzt just keep waiting. And like (Iwata) said, there will be no information before April'06 :(

Jason said...

Sign SeriousLamer007. The lame ass that never stops.

Anonymous said...

as i've said many times before, I just don't see a visor or any variant there of happening. It's far to scary to the average consumer - even hardcore people such as myself would be turned off.

Plus, we saw people playing the game via the TGS video and we heard first hand of journalists playing. Granted, they could change things, but I just don't see it happening. Nintendo probably has a few tricks up their sleeves, but I would be EXTREMELY surprised, shocked even, if they did something as extravagent as a visor.

Anonymous said...

I think the sceret will be somthing to do with the cradle, a visor is pushing it in my opinion, unless ,of course ,its done well.

Falafelkid said...

@anonymous: You fail to see what improvements that might bring? 3D graphics - wherever you are, for one.

@SSSD: Hi and welcome back. As I said, a special plate of glass does away with any kind of glasses, so no need to put anything on. You just watch. And please do consider this: Why would Nintendo make the console so small if it wasn´t for the fact that it is meant to be portable? And if it´s meant to be portable - why doesn´t it have a screen? Well, it might get one...

I am always saying don´t get your hopes up too high. But that is a very valid point in my opinion. The size of the console dictates the kind of hardware that goes inside - so why would Nintendo castrate themselves, if it was only for reasons of style? Noone has been able to answer that question satisfactorily - unless they pointed to some kind of mobile projection device.

Oh No...the infamous Nintendo insider Osoko Tanaka has a new post on his blog...geez I can't believe people still take him and seriousgamer seriously. One annoying thing he always say in a lot of his posts is this line "Uh Matt?" Its funny, if he said that the revolution controller can stop the hurricanes, people will still believe him.

Anonymous said...

what? it can stop hurricanes? my god, i HAVE to buy revolution ASAP!!!! ;-)

Anonymous said...

mayby its so small so that housewifes can take it with them on the go. nintendo might be thinking about increasing the market more than we know.

Anonymous said...

Before the Rev controller was unveiled, I was convinced that the Revolution would be portable. I mean look at it. 3 DVD cases stacked together is DAMN small. My predictions of what the controller would be were highly influenced by the idea of portability.

But now that we know what the controller is, a portable Revolution just seems too improbable. First, the screen is not fixed to controller itself, like it is for most portables. Second, the Rev controller was specifically made for point, click, etc...actions that I can't envision translating well to settings outside the comfort of home. Still, I hope for portability.

And then there is the Squre-Enix quote:

"The Revolution may embody a new platform beyond a portable or console, which makes possible a new structure in the network gaming system, changing the ways communities are built and supported."

I still have no idea what Square-Enix was refering to here, it certainly doesn't seem related to the controller. I think this is the missing piece of the puzzle, and that we'll find out what was meant when Nintendo announces their Wi-fi plans in November. Portability, in way or another, might be part of Nintendo's plan.

Shoxware Games said...

well, at least, osoko tanaka is a LITTLE bit more credible then SG007. i mean, what osoko tells us, is not unbelievable at all - it just seems realistic to me. and he knew, that the controller were two parts.

i really don't know, what to think about this guy!

Anonymous said...

seriousgamer, is an idot cus he always disproves himself, and his readers who belive him are idots cus they belive him

Anonymous said...

wouldnt the whole "plate of glass portable thing" sorta kill the revolutions natural advantage for first person shooters. the controller is just not made for playing on small screens or little pices of glass because you cant scale down physical movement like on a D-pad or joystick.

On another note isnt the controller like a little 'GPS' system? its like a boat at sea and the little things that sit on either side of the TV are like the satlites triagulating it .Probibly odviovs but i hadent heard any else say it so what the hell.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if Osoko is a fake, but I don't matter, I keep read him. He's said true things, like the pad.

Anonymous said...

To nz guy- Why cant you scale down physical momevemnt to a portable,I mean this remote works on any size tv, if you swing a sword on one tv, it would make the same movment on another tv. It is not like if you have a 50in tv, or a movie theatre you are going to be runing around to get movment out of the controller. Its all relative, it does not matter what size the screen is at all, the only thing being scaled is the image. The remote does not have to be pointing at the screen for it to work. the developer just has to say"if they move the remote this much in the real world, it moves this much in game", and on top of that there will most likely be sensitivity settings.

Anonymous said...

CHECKMATE my friends. the reason the revolution will NOT be portable is that it will be directly compeating against the DS!

Anonymous said...

also, there is the possiblity that the system would be in the visor.Or the system would be the sensors to traingulate everything. There has been rumors that the rev console is just a decoy. maybe thats why they wont support HD as well, as there is no need to because it wont neccasirly hook up to a TV. But I imagine if the whole system was just a visor or the sensors, that you could plug it into a tv if u want. This also lends itself to the idea that its a portable console, because this visor/glasses thing, wouldnt need a tv, and their would be headphiones and a mic on it. It just depends on how small they could make the whole thing. Just imagine how revolutionary it would be to have a console style videogame system that doesnt need a tv...just a possibility

Anonymous said...

@FalafelKid: My Point is that i dont believe ANYTHING that the SG007 Guy says because i had look in everything and Almost the 80% he said as been false. Because why? I E-mail Nintendo. And Ask or E-mail Matt Cassasima ( IGN Cube channel Editor ). TO know if the stuff Are truth. And also i got Revolution RESERVED in Gamestop. And The guy told me is Coming AFTER MAY. No Exact Date, And Each Month i have to call to mantain my reservement updated and when Gamestop knows the exact date they will call me to update my Reservment. So I cant give a Picture or Scan of it because for My Reservment Security and Either I dont have Dig. Cam Memory Card either Scanner. I Hope this is my Point.

Anonymous said...

hey hey hey , hold it right there; YOU GUYS HAVE TO STOP FANTASIZING ABOUT VISORS AND OTHER GADGETS LIKE THAT. There is no way that will happen with revolution, Iwata said that revo, could be played on any type of Tv and even screen projectors. also at E3 when they were talking about the internet connection , the guy from Nintendo specified that it would be a new interface between the user and th Tv using the "controller". NOw I never herd of anything as stupid as transparent sheets of glasse, glasses or whatsoever. There are things that we dont know , and that is probably how the thing works , is specifics and hopefully an important piece of hardware to add on to the remote, maybe it is even a function of the remote we never thought of. But visors glasses and what not are highly improbable.

Anonymous said...

to anonymous

wat sort of situation im talking about is like in a first person shooter you would want to point at the person your going to shoot , this would be very difficult on a small screen because a slight movement could send the sight way off target.

i also think there wont be any magic glass or super goggles but we will see

Anonymous said...

What we don't know :

- specs
- how the games wiil look like
- how the retro download service will work
- launch line-up
- pricepoint

...

Hell, that's enough for Nintendo to take even 6 more months to spill the beans.

Anonymous said...

to nz guy- fps aren neccasirly going to work, by you point to where you want to shoot. In a fps you only control the veiw not that aim, you will always fire in the center of the screen at a fixed reticule no matter where you are aiming. So it would move exactly the same way on any size screen. However on a light gun game, yes a small screen would be more dificult to aim at.

Anonymous said...

the way i think your talking about is how i first thought an fps would work on the rev, but with that setup to turn around in the game you would have to turn around in real life.

Anonymous said...

an alturnitive would be to have the sight not always in the centre so that when your sight reaches the edge of the screen it will start to turn in that direction untill you move it away from the edge.

magic

Anonymous said...

sry this is kinda off topic but i just cant stop thinking about how amazing this game looks

http://www.projectoffset.com/news.html

watch the g4tv attack of the show video and the 2nd sneak preview this would be great for the revolution, but i doubt that the revo will have enogh power to run the engine these guys made

Shoxware Games said...

@ majic 12: believe me, a futuristic helmet like the nintendo ON will not be released. at least not as the nintendo revolution console.

i don't think they would build up such a huge smokescreen, just to pop out and say: "our revolution was fake, and the fan video released before we released any information is the real deal..." quit living on dreams.

@ falafelkid: Hey, atari just announced, that they will develop games for revo. you might post it.

Anonymous said...

Hey, look at that :

http://www.revolutionreport.com/articles/read/156

Kojima states that we'll have news "very soon".

Anonymous said...

This Game Helix thing is utter crap. . .Hopefully all you fools who downloaded it will get some sort of virus from it

Anonymous said...

I don't think there is much chance of it being portable. I mean whats the point and with the revolutions controller it just wouldn't work on a small screen.Like your hand movements would get in the way of your view of the screen

Anonymous said...

New Zealand guy has a point with the fps thing. I don't know how they will do it. All I know is that I can't wait for a star wars game to come out on it. Imagine the possibilities of a lightsaber battle

@Falafelkid:

Ya, I`m that guy that you tried to make fun of with your immature ass/face comment.

You seem to be hung up on the idea of 3D graphics? Why is that? You report on Nintendo day in and day out, so you should at least know what Nintendo, as a company, is like.

It`s all about the games. Their controller is a testament to that philosophy. So why would a smart person like yourself think that they would add a feature that doesn`t effect gameplay, or in other words, their idea of what makes a game, a game. It would be border-line hypocritical to add a sheet of glass that provides 3D graphics. They want to make this console as mass-market friendly as possible. If people need an assembly kit and a manual just to setup a meaningless feature, then that would be hypocritical.

Also, my first post wasn`t even talking about 3D, but rather a visor. A visor is far worse as a feature than 3D graphics. The idea of making all games first person view is ridiculous. It doesn`t make those games any better. In fact, it woiuld deteriorate(sp?) it instead. Point in case: Mario. Imagine how many people would throw up when playing that game. At one moment, he`s crouching looking at the ground, the next he`s flipping backwards. I can`t even imagine what how horrible his triple tornado spin jump would be.

Anyway, I have no clue what Nintendo is hiding, but I can safely rule out a Visor and 3D graphics.

Falafelkid said...

@blazentosh: I find it quite ironic that you call my comments immature. Next time, try putting forward an argument. Then I take you seriously. Also, I was never insulting you. So there´s absolutely no reason you should flame.

But let´s forget that. I actually appreciate the rest of your comments, though I do not agree with most of them.

It´s all about the games. Exactly. Adding a third dimension clearly would be so much more immersive and totally "about the games". It would significantly add to gameplay. Given glasses or visors, you could turn around in a virtual world, given the ´plate of glass´ solution, you could walk around a projected 3D image. That would open up totally new types of gameplay.

Also, there would be no assembly required, as you suggest. Stereoscopic technology could theoretically be built into the console, 3D images could simply appear on top of the console or some accessory.

I think you are wrong about the first-person view as well. 3D need not necessitate a first-person perspective. Isometric is just as possible.

Finally, I myself don´t think 3D technology is all too likely. The main reason against is that it´s just very hard to imagine a combination of the controller and 3D visuals, at least with the stereoscopic ´plate of glass´, which is the most non-threatening way of implementation.

However, there are just a number of aspects that seem really odd. Why is the console so small that it blatantly limits the hardware that can fit inside? Nintendo is effectively castrating the console´s power. And they wouldn´t, unless they had a good reason. It´s not just about style, clearly. Hardware power is curtailed for the sake of mobility. But why make a home console portable? How would you play on the go - without a TV?

Also, Merrick and other execs have reiterated time and time again that there is more to the console. The controller is a fantastic revolution in itself. So why build up even more hype, if they know they´re not going to be able to deliver? And why haven´t they shown any games alongside the controller? Why have they not played the media card appopriately at the TGS keynote? Reuters and APTN were not there. Why is Nintendo suddenly so boldly asserting the possibility of becomin market leader again?

Evidently, there will be a big unveiling of the console soon-ish. And I think it´s clear that there is something else to the console that is at least as big a revolution as the controller. At least, Nintendo seems to think so.

Considering that, I would not want to rule out anything.

Falafelkid said...

P.S.: "You report on Nintendo day in and day out, so you should at least know what Nintendo, as a company, is like." - I do. So need I even mention the Virtual Boy?

Anonymous said...

Your assertion about 3D making gaming vastly better is ridiculous. 3D would do for gaming, the same thing it did for movies.

Also again, you miss read my commments. When I used my mario example, I wasn't talking about 3D rather I was talking about a visor. Honestly, there is nothing you could say to me that would change my opinion on a visor. As of right now, their horrible.

3D will not significantly change gaming until something can create a 3D world that we can touch and explore. Mark my words.

Also, your virtual boy is example, intstead of helping your argument basically destroyed it. Nintendo thought the same thing you do, ie 3D is the next big step! However, the system failed.....horribly. It may have been because it was all red and black, but then again it may have failed due to the only interesting thing being 3D, which in this case wasn't that interesting at all.

I'd like to add that they have had 3D gaming for a while now (on computers anyway). I remember seeing it at some expo. Honestly it was the worst thing there.

Also, I'm not alone in this. I visit possibly the most interesting of all Nintendo forums, PlanetGamecube.com. A few there maybe fanboys, but most are smart, skeptical people who question Nintendo instead of idly agreeing with them. They play games all the time (of course), so know what would help gaming and what wouldn't. This isn't to say, they aren't open minded or anything. When the Rev Controller was first revealed, most were appalled by it but still gave it a chance and in turn ended up loving it.

I may not be able to convince you other wise, but maybe this discussion can.
