EDGE to reveal more info?

Interesting teaser advert in the current ´EDGE´ Magazine. Joystiq has the story:
Apparently, there´s a scan from the October issue of EDGE Magazine touting a mysterious article on the Nintendo Revolution—or a glowing vertical slit of some kind—in issue 156 to be released October 27 (at least in the UK).

In addition, there’s a circular view of organic-cell-like shapes in a microscopic view on the opposite page, which could be construed to make up the letter “E” (we think).

Now, The ´E´ need not have anything to do with the Revolution. But it´s interesting that it´s spelt in a viral design. And even if this is unrelated after all, EDGE might have new info on the console. If the scans are real, though. Can anyone confirm this?

I've never heard of EDGE magazine. I am assuming that they cover videogames. Would they be the kind of people who do something like this?

***My though , Not true , Not even rumor***

I think about.

E6 (Next Year)
Revolution (just name)
BioHazard (Re.)
Star war (That vertical light)
Edge (Magazine it self)

The mose interesting is some one say that it might be.

for Everyone (And about that 99$ price ^ ^)

wait so is that a scan of an advertisment in the magazine or an advertisment for the magazine?

It's advertisment in magazine for it's next issue.

joystiq have someone confirm of the pages in the mag by some subscribers.

The "E" made me think of Electroplankton... I don't see why Nintendo would give new information to EDGE, which I have never heard of either. I'd say it's more likely that new info would come out in Nintendo Power, or on their site. If there was any new information to be found in that magazine, chances are it would have been leaked already.

Edge is consider the best Video Game magazine behind Famitsu. I just bought one recently and is great. Is like Old School NextGen all over again. Is a little more expensive since its from England but it worth it. So if EDGE have exclusive Revolution info then they deserve it.

Maybe the magazine will reveal more information on both the Revolution and the PS3, cuz the blue bar is clearly the Rev but maybe the microscopic picture is hinting at the "Cell" Processor.

you might be right toasty

Anonymous said...

toasty are you part of a videogame website? i cant put my figure on it but i've heard your name before...mario kart?

Anonymous said...

All it is, is they're covering information on the Revolution (glowing disc tray) and PS3 (the cells named after the processor and is in the shape of the Edge logo)

That's all it is, don't get too excited and yes Edge is one of the best games magazines in the UK.

The E is for the Edge logo they use it a lot in their adverts, it means nothing.

Anonymous said...

the E is their logo, but not the cells

The "E" is probably a reference to Spore.

Edge is a very well respected (multi format) v.game mag from the UK. I've moved back to HK now for seven yrs but still (and only) subscribe to them. You can check out their website on edge-online.co.uk
the last two pages (and the first on the inside cover) have traditionally contained the same three elements

page one - cryptic graphic
second last page - preview of nxt issue
last page - resolution of the cryptic graphic...to show it representing the Edge logo itself.

Incidentally, it is also the first three things i look at when i get my copy. the cryptic graphic at the front (to see if i can guess what the resolution would be at the back, then the back where i find i got it all wrong, and finally the second to last page to see what they have coming up nxt month)

As others have said before, the last page is not really relevant to anything..except as another funky way of showing the company's ident. Think the flourishes you sometimes added to the google logo around certain occasions. I shouldnt think the use of viruses is particularly meaningful, except to say that they generally pick something thats topical for their graphic play on their logo to represent the zeitgeist, rather than use it to hint at anything to come. In this sense, the use of viruses could mean either a reference to the PS3's cell processor, but also the use of viral mkting campaigns by Msoft.

Edge would definitely have access to Nintendo and its personel for an indepth look at the Revo but its unlikely that they will be premiering any facts before the company does so on its own (it certainly has not in the pass with major hardware/ software releases).

What it will have is balanced non-fanboy coverage of this, and any v.game related stories. It will also be more indepth than just your standard spec sheet polygon count

I would recommend anyone who is interested in a more mature and in depth look at the games industry to give this magazine a try

I actually already received this ish, but apart from quickly looking at these three elements, have not had a chance to read the mag itself. I shall do so tonight and report back should something interesting come up. but as i said, chances are its nothing.

Yeah, if any one (English-language) gaming mag was going to get the skinny direct from Nintendo, it would be Edge. For those of you who haven't read it - do so. It's what gaming journalism should be. Intelligent, articulate, informed. It's bloody wonderful.

EDGE were first to publish official details about the Xbox 360. It's an excellent magazine, and highly regarded.

The behind the scenes of Warioware article was fantastic!

I should buy it really, but my friend always brings it round for me to read. :p

Afaik (I dunno anyone selling EDGE in my area unfortunately) the latest issue came out around TGS, and they haven't covered the Rev presentation yet (correct me if you know better). So next issue is just the "usual" unveiling, unwillingly delayed as print mags sometimes are. Of course that wouldn't rule out the possibility of some news amongst the known.

Anonymous said...

I don't buy EDGE.
If it importan it will post any web for sure.
Even If I know that information.
Revolution will not sale on that time.

now keep money for next gen consol ....

Anonymous said...

Its real

Anonymous said...

I SAY: They know nothing more than anyone else OTHER than nintendo knows...and ALL they WANT is for peope to GO buy their mag..plan and simple...

Anonymous said...

Any way it will post here... right? Know faster 1 day don't make any thing. But you lose some thing.

joystiq say "Then again, that “E” could just be the typical way that Edge promotes its next issues. We’ve been disappointed with next-gen “exclusives” before, ****so it’s probably a good idea not to get our hopes up too much.****"

But even it nothing this time we will know all at E3 2006.

PS. I wish to know all now too.

Will Wright went to the DS european launch party, i think he even had a speech. Maybe both clues are linked together. I hope so :D

Thanks Rob. I was thinking of Spore as well, but just couldn't remember the name.

Edge is a very good magazine and their photos are very good I wish our US mags would learn from them and publish the same types of photos that they do. As for the "cryptic" logo and such it could mean several things or it could mean nothing, I personally think this type of "viral" advertising is a good thing it does exactly what it's doing right here right now, it stirs things up and creates a buzz. So even if the article is nothing and has not alot of new information on the (code name)Revolution or whatever new name they decide to give it this one picture just gave them more then a few million dollars worth of advertising in several magazines...

@GWX: Hi and welcome. I wouldn´t be so sure that Nintendo will say no more until E3. In fact, I am pretty sure they will reveal more very soon. In my opinion, Nintendo better have pretty cool news ready by the time the Xbox360 launches, just to put some people off the Microsoft console. Also, remember that apparently some Nintendo employee said that the controller was only secret number two out of four (the virtual console being the first). Shoxware Games reminded me of that in his comment on the last post. If that is indeed true, then Nintendo has enough info to spread now and have plenty left over for E3. And some. Mark my words: There will be more news to come right around the Xbox360 launch. They´d be fools not to show any games or mesmerize us in some other way...

Anonymous said...

can anyone tell me, when the NDA's with nintendo will end? I'm sure many publishers will announce their games then...

Anonymous said...

well i just thought of somthing...when it comes to countering the xbox 360's launch couldnt nintendo just not doing anything?

isnt sony supposed to be microsofts biggest compotition this time around? isnt nintendo supposed to be in its own little world?

I think sony is going to release all sorts of new info, games, videos ect.. to counter the xbox360,not that i dont want to see new revo news, but couldn't nintendo just let ps3 steal away the hype for the xbox 360 and then release info later when boht kinda died down? it might be possible that nintendo wont release info the counter it? ..idk maybe this is the dumbass in me talking

Anonymous said...

In regards to the E, I've never seen edge before, but I've heard that there's always an 'E' in these things representing edge itself.. can anyone confirm?

To the creator of the blog,

In your honest assuption, do you think that revolution is going to be way underpowered as so as your undercover developer friends says so. I mean when you look at it, those it really matter now..I for one and a gamer of 15 years and I am getting tired of this horse pucky of graphics things. I have not played a decent game since..console wise RE 4 for the Cube and Meteos and Castlevania for the DS...nothing catches my eye anymore. Except for the Revolution Controller.

And we know so little of the reason why they call it the "Revolution" the system is one the controller is another...whats left of them to drop..... let me konw something, cause I really like you insite on things.

Anonymous said...

@ anonymous: Nah man, I do not have any affiliation with any sort of videogame website, this is just a silly nickname I use! If Nintendo really does have two more secrets to reveal about the Revolution that is very interesting information indeed!

Anonymous said...

If Nintendo have only two more secrets. And There is 8 month left. This is not good timing. for Nintendo to show them.

If Nintendo aim to reduce x-box 360 sale on new year. Maybe 17/11 or 1/12 is something much better than 27/10.

Also Nintendo might let sony do that work.

Probability of EDGE to have that information seem too less. So let's not hope too much.

I believe that in the next issue, all they are going to do is have a full article (and in this case, it would be the main one), about the Nintendo Revolution controller. Because right after the announcement of the controller itself at the Tokyo Games Show, an Editor at Edge Magazine, had written up an article about the announcement on their official website, and mentioned that they would have the controller fully covered in the next issue of their mag.

The image of the cell on the next page, I believe has got nothing to do with the Nintendo Revolution. It's just a continuation of the design; including the purpose behind it, that is on the very first page of the magazine. Edge has a tendency to do that for some reason. It's the same in every issue.

But I could be wrong.

Falafelkid said...

Hi Mario fighter. I have said it a million times and I´ll gladly say it again: I am sure that an underpowered Revolution (which is what we´ll get, for sure) will still be able to roughly look on par with the other two consoles. Best example is the comparison between Xbox and Gamecube. We all know the hardware difference between the two, but the better graphics are on the Cube. I have yet to see the stunning light effects of an F-Zero or a Metroid or a Primal Fury on the Xbox.

The developer did say however that porting games to Rev needed special attention, some kind of scaling down. However, I have learnt that porting a game to the PS3 also requires special attention, because of the awkward chip architecture. So that shouldn´t put developers off bringing their games to the Revo.

I am quite convinced that the controller was not the only innovative aspect about the console. There may be even bigger news to come. Again, just think about the size of the Revolution. Nintendo wouldn´t want to make it that small unless they had plans that required the console to be portable.

Hey, have a look at that :

http://www.edge-online.co.uk/archives/2005/09/nintendo_starts.php

"Specific software is also off the menu, although early demonstrations of the device today included a toy plane game (where the user held the controller the way they would a toy plane), fishing and a first-person shooter section based on Metroid Prime 2.

These all proved that the device has demanded software creativity from even Nintendo. Other titles have already been demonstrated to a few select members of the press, including Edge, behind closed doors - and we will reveal our verdict on the Nintendo-developed ideas in an upcoming issue "

By "other titles", do they mean "something more than the demos ?"

Falafelkid said...

No, not as far as it relates to what was shown at TGS. IGN had a pretty thorough account of all tech demos shown and they were just that: pure demos, most of them without any graphical appeal. Check http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651275p1.html for their account. The only demo resembling a game was Metroid.

Since this month you can buy the UK EDGE-magazine (good translated) in Germany.

So, I can tell, that the picture isn`t a fake.

I don`t think, that a magazin like EDGE (you haven`t even heared of it?) will make such an announcement and haven`t important facts.

Or they haven`t a report about the new controller yet? I don`t think so, because it was demonstrated to them too.

Ok let's see jim Merrick said that there are even more secrets to be revealed .

What could it be ? I honestly think that one of the secrets has to do with the GPU ! The thing is, that it probably isn't a real secret in the sense that the remote was !

Iwata said that if you look at the raw numbers, you might think that it is underpowered compared to the other two systems, but do numbers really tell the whole story ? and did he really try to tell us that the system was indeed not competing technicaly, or were his words more of an indication, or even a hint, at what they are aiming at in regards to the GPU and that it doesn't count how much you have of everything but rather that it matters how you make use of what you have!?

And having watched how the visuals of Xbox and Ncube games faired against each other- despite the differences of the specs that are present on paper- I suppose we all have learnt to avoid early judgement .

It is obvious that the key is effiency, the ability to find a solution for a problem and the ability to make compromises in order to achive more with less .

And that's what Jim Merick was reffering to as a secret if you ask me . The next so called secret is the way the GPU will work .

Perrin Caplin once claimed that the system will be two or three times more powerful than Ncube(GameCube) and if that really is the case - and it sounds quite realistic to me - then I am not worried in any way that Revolution won't be on par with PS3 and 360 .

Can someone please show me one game that looks two or three times better than the creme de la creme on NCube (with twice as much poly-count,twice as good textures, lightning, physics) ?well,I can't.

Resident Evil 4 is considered the best looking game of this generation (not just on a technical level but also on a artistic one) and if you think the Ps2 version is anywhere as impressive as the Ncube version, I suggest you check out the comparison shots released by ruliweb just so you can make yourself a picture ! Now imagine a game that really is twice as beautiful as Resi4 which should be possible if what Caplin says is true. And when a game looks two times better than Resident Evil 4 I would definetly be the last person to complain because my system is the least powerful!

Wie sind deine Ansichten Falafelkid ?
